The Church Fathers
Christian Classics Ethereal LibraryBibleStudyTools.com
When I think about the movers and shakers in historical Christianity, I think of names like John Calvin, John Wesley, Martin Luther, C. S. Lewis, and John MacArthur. But Christianity is approximately 2,000 years old, and in the grand scheme of things, these are relatively recent writers. The Church Fathers is the name given to the group of church leaders who wrote in the first few centuries after Christ, and their writing is very interesting to read, giving insight into the world of Christianity so long ago. Here you find great names like St. Augustine and St. John Chrysostom, and older still St. Polycarp and St. Ignatius, disciples of the Apostle John; and St. Clement of Rome, disciple of the Apostle Peter.
